about the coalition
Laurel County Health Department began partnering with Saint Joseph London in May 2011 to begin the process of completing a community health assessment.
In October 2011, the Laurel County Community Health Needs Assessment Coalition was established. LCHD and Saint Joseph London pursued community partners and representatives from the community to serve on the coalition in efforts to obtain a wide perspective of voices while planning the first Laurel County Community Health Assessment (CHA) and subsequent Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
Laurel County Health in Motion utilizes the Mobilizing Action Through Planning and Partnership’s (MAPP) model to complete a CHA/CHIP process every 3 - 5 years.
In an effort give the coalition a better identity in the community, the name Laurel County Health in Motion Coalition was established in 2014 at the initiation of the second cycle of the MAPP Process.
As of 2023, the coalition has administered 4 cycles of the CHA/CHIP process.
